The 31st Annual Gerald R. Ford Journalism Prizes for Distinguished reporting in 2017 were presented by Foundation Trustee Carla A. Hills at the Foundation’s Annual Dinner on Monday, June 4, 2018, at The Capitol Hill Club in Washington, D.C.

White House Bureau Chief Philip Rucker and White House Reporter Ashley Parker from The Washington Post were the recipients of the 31st Annual Gerald R. Ford Journalism Prize for Distinguished Reporting on the Presidency in 2017. In addition, National Security Team Leader Guy Taylor and National Security Reporter Dan Boylan from The Washington Times won an Honorable Mention for the 31st Annual Gerald R. Ford Journalism Prize for Distinguished Reporting on the Presidency in 2017.

2018 Journalism Awards

National Security Correspondent J.J. Green from WTOP Radio (Washington, D.C.) was the recipient of the 31st Annual Gerald R. Ford Journalism Prize for Distinguished Reporting on National Defense in 2017. J.J. Green is the first recipient from radio media to win a Gerald R. Ford Journalism Prize. In addition, Managing Editor R. Jeffrey Smith, National Security Reporter Patrick Malone, Data Editor Chris Zubak-Skees and Consulting Reporter Peter Cary from The Center for Public Integrity won an Honorable Mention for the 31st Annual Gerald R. Ford Journalism Prize for Distinguished Reporting on National Defense in 2017.

Ashley Parker, Philip Rucker, and J.J. Green each provided remarks following their acceptance of their Journalism Prize.

Each year, the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Foundation awards two distinguished journalism prizes, one for reporting on the Presidency and the other for reporting on National Defense. These prizes, initiated in 1988, recognize reportorial excellence and the fostering of better public understanding of the presidency and national defense. Each year the two prizes are presented to the winners at a reception and luncheon in Washington, D.C. and include a $5,000 award, one for each prize.
