Sponsored by the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Foundation, author Van Hipp visited the West Michigan Aviation Academy on November 3, 2016 to speak with students. Hipp is the author of 'The New Terrorism: How to Fight It and Defeat It'. Nearly 600 students from grades 9-12 attended Hipp's remarks, which included discussing cyber security and the need for students to pursue careers in IT as its industry growth continues to expand.
The West Michigan Aviation Academy is a tuition-free public charter high school founded by Dick DeVos upon encouragement from wife, Betsy. Stemming from their passion for education and aviation, the school opened its doors in the fall of 2010 and is located on the grounds of the Gerald R. Ford International Airport.
WMAA students were invited to ask questions and many had informed and thoughtful inquiries about the current state of cyber security in the nation, as well as actions their generation can take.
