Hank Meijer "Arthur Vandenberg: The Man in the Middle of the American Century"

At the dawn of the Cold War, Senator Arthur H. Vandenberg, a Republican from Grand Rapids, worked with Democratic administrations to build congressional support for monumental foreign policy endeavors, including the Marshall Plan, NATO, and the United Nations.

The Hauenstein Center for Presidential Studies was proud to partner with the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Foundation and the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library & Museum to host a presentation by Hank Meijer, co-chairman of Meijer, Inc., honoring the publication of his authoritative Vandenberg biography by the University of Chicago Press.

Hank Meijer’s articles on Senator Vandenberg have been published in the Michigan Historical Review, and he wrote the entry on the Senator for Simon and Schuster’s Encyclopedia of the United States Congress. Meijer is an associate scholar at the Hauenstein Center for Presidential Studies and is, also Vice Chairman of the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Foundation. He serves on the boards of Fifth Third Bank, the Kettering Foundation, and the Food Marketing Institute and is a member of the President’s Advisory Group of the University of Michiga
