The Gerald R. Ford Presidential Foundation, Library & Museum, and GVSU’s Hauenstein Center for Presidential Studies welcomed writer and World War II historian, Ian Toll, to delve into the fateful day.“On December 7, 1941, a date which will live in infamy, the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by the empire of Japan.” So began President Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s piercing address to Congress.
Toll authored Pacific Crucible, The Conquering Tide, and Twilight of the Gods, a nonfiction trilogy about the Pacific War. Toll has been widely published in newspapers and magazines, including the New York Times, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, and Boston Globe. His books on the Pacific War have been translated into Japanese, Chinese, and Dutch. Toll has spoken at venues and institutions throughout the United States, including the Pentagon, U.S. Treasury Department, National World War II Museum, and U.S. Naval Academy.
