The USS Gerald R. Ford CVN 78 is over 80% completed and while work remains its shipbuilder Huntington Ingalls Industries expects the ship to be ready for delivery in 2016. CVN 78’s  construction continues at the Newport News Shipbuilding shipyards in Newport News, VA with testing and trials also still to be completed.

The US Navy’s lead ship of its newest class of carriers, the Ford Class, will be one the most advanced ships in the world and a leading ship for the US Navy for the next 50 years. Challenges include setbacks with construction and cost overruns. While any project of this importance will have its challenges, the US Navy and Huntington Ingalls continue to envision the day that CVN 78 will be available to shape military affairs for the United States.
